Declaration of Dependence II
By Ps Simon Cheong
Dependence on God is one of the wisest decisions we can make
in our lives. We make declarations of dependence on God based
of these three following attributes of God.
|
We know that when Christ came into our lives, His great desire is to set us free - freedom from Satan, freedom from sin and freedom from being dependent on the things of the world. This freedom can only be a reality if we give up dependence on other things and learn to be dependent on Him totally.
We need to give up our dependence on the things of the world and declare our total dependence on God.
Ps 121 NKJV
1 I will lift up my eyes to the hills- from whence comes my help? 2 My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth. 3 He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber. 4 Behold, He who keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. 5 The LORD is your keeper; the LORD is your shade at your right hand. 6 The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night. 7 The LORD shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul. 8 The LORD shall preserve your going out and your coming in from this time forth, and even forevermore.

1. The First Declaration of Dependence is the declaration of dependence on the God who is. This is taken from Hebrews 11:6, which says that “… he that cometh to Him must believe that He is,” translated means “He exists.” So the first declaration that we, as believers, need to make especially in times of difficulty, is to declare He is. He exists even though I may not see Him in the midst of the storms of life.
2. The Second Declaration of Dependence we need to make in times of need is that we can depend on God because of who He is. That’s because credential is very important. Take the case of writing a will - I cannot write the will for you, simply because I am not qualified and do not have the credential to do so, but the lawyers have. My help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth - that’s one awesome credential! He will not let my foot to be moved or to slip - that’s another aspect of God. He that keeps me will not sleep or slumber – God does not get tired, unlike you and I.
He is the Most High God. Since He is above all, He is also above all your problems. He is above all your needs. He is above all your infirmities and He is able to do exceedingly and abundantly more than you can ever ask for.
God is not just above all, He is watching over us all the time. The scripture says that He does not sleep or slumber. He does not need to sleep. He is constantly awake, He is alive and active and He engages with human beings to make our lives better and stronger.
Another point to note is, God creates and sustains. We make and sometimes we destroy. But God, He creates and He makes sure He has all the mechanisms in place to sustain His creation. He is involved in sustaining this whole world and our very existence. He looks at you and me as individuals saved and washed in His blood. He loves and cares for us individually. And what a task it is to administrate the people of God and to lead them to greater heights! But we can trust in Him because He is able.
He is more than qualified in being our Helper in every area of our concern. Whether education, finance or physical issues, we can come to God because He is above all, He is the creator, our keeper and our shelter. God protects us from all things and takes us forward to better things.
3. The Third Declaration of Dependence is found in verses 6 to 8: we have a declaration of dependence on the promises of God. God does not give empty promises. When He promises that He will keep us safe, He will keep His word, He will keep us from falling, from being smitten and from unseen dangers at night.
He does not only keep us but He also equips us with the armour of God, with care and security. He gives us the ability and the tools that we need to face the challenges of each day so that we can have stability and strength when faced with all kinds of pressures. All the problems in life make us stronger because God has given us the capacity to handle them. His word says that He cares for our soul.
So let us make these declarations no matter what difficulty we are going through. Let us declare our dependence on God. Why should I depend on God? The answer is very clear, for as the psalmist says, HE exists! He is real, He’s alive and He is on our side. We depend on Him because of who He is, our Creator has all the right credentials to deliver us and God’s promises are true – every promise written in His word is for us to claim and to experience in our lives. Our dependence on God brings us to victory!
