Acts of Grace 23
Now YOUR SKILLS, HIS GLORY!
By Pastor Henry
Our skills and talents are more than meet the eye – they are gifted to us by God Himself to carry out the work that He has in store for us.
It is wonderful that God knows us by name. When God appointed a man to spearhead the building of His temple, He gave Moses the specific name of the person He had chosen. Moses did not know this man, he had been 40 years in the desert and He did know the people of Israel well and yet God had told him to lead them.
Then the Lord spoke to Moses saying, “See I have called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, from the tribe of Judah, and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship, to design artistic works, to work in gold, in silver, in bronze, in cutting jewels for setting, in carving wood, and to work in all manner of workmanship.” (Exodus 31:1-2)

So God knows each one of us by name, we are not a number. He singled out to Moses a man named ‘Bezalel, the son of Uri, the son of Hur, the grandfather of the tribe of Judah’. So God knows you, He knows your ancestors, He knows your father and grandfather, He knows which tribe and village you came from, He knows your end from the beginning.
God said He put the spirit of God on this particular man, Bazalel and gave him the skill and ability to deal with gold, silver and brass. He was creating a metal-smith with all the artistic abilities. Even today the most capable people dealing with gold, silver are the Jews. Because the scripture says here right in the beginning God put the Holy Spirit that gives wisdom, understanding and knowledge so that you will know how to get the gold, silver and all the brass and you will know how to design them and make them fit for even God to occupy.
So the spirit of God comes upon us and He puts specific skills and ability upon us to deal with every area of expertise. For instance, to put up Alpha Omega International, God’s building and equipping station, we need engineers, architects, draftsmen, builders and all types of workers and specialists. Each one is given a different gifting and God says ‘He through the spirit of God gave us such skills’. All of us have different skills and talents and it is nothing to do with the so-called spirituality that you and I are familiar with. God says the ability to work with stone, timber, and wood is also the gift of the Holy Spirit. To cook, sew, drive and look after the garden, making it grow and flower are skills given by God. And He says He needs all these skills. All of you here are skilled people!
“And I, indeed I, have appointed with him, Aholiab the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan; and I have put wisdom in the hearts of all the gifted artisans, that they may make all that I have commanded you...” (Exodus 31:6)

You see here that God has a plan and God gives the power to fulfil the plan, and that includes providing the personnel for the plan. God also gave Bezalel an assistant and He gave the name of that person as well. God has a plan and it is a divine vision and not man’s dream.
One person cannot fulfil the plan. God needs a community, a movement to accomplish it. Man likes to make a monument but God creates a movement. A movement made up of like-minded people filled with wisdom, understanding and knowledge and are committed to all manner of workmanship.
Beloved, what is your skill? What are you talented at? God has put His spirit over you to give you ability in specific areas. Your skills are a blessing and you can use them for God’s glory. No skill is too insignificant in God’s eyes, and no talent is too small to make a difference in someone’s life.
So let us put our God-given skills and talents together and build God’s kingdom – all for His glory!
