THE RESURRECTION OF CHRIST AND THE RENTING OF THE VEIL (PART II)
By Pastor Henry
The resurrection of Jesus Christ also caused the renting of the veil in the temple.
Matt 27:45 NKJV
Now from the sixth hour until the ninth hour there was darkness over all the land.
Matt 27:51-53 NKJV
51 Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split, 52 and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; 53 and coming out of the graves after His resurrection, they went into the holy city and appeared to many.

At the time of His crucifixion, as Jesus hung between heaven and earth, between God and man as the mediator and said, “It is finished” (John 19:30), ‘meaning my work is finished, I have done what you assigned me to do…’ many things happened suddenly. The skies became dark as the sun hid itself. And as darkness enveloped the earth at the midday hour, there was an earthquake that caused the renting of the rocks and the earth. The graves had to yield, causing the righteous dead to be resurrected and they appeared all over Jerusalem.
As all nature was revolting against its Maker being crucified, the Roman centurion and all the soldiers who had been involved in the crucifixion, knelt down. The Roman centurion removed his helmet which he was not supposed to do because he only bowed and knelt before Caesar. Yet, the Roman centurion who was a trained murderer, knelt before Christ on the cross and declared, “Truly, this was the son of God” (Matt 27:54) because he had never seen nature revolt. Hallelujah!
And the scripture says the moment Jesus said, “It is finished”, the veil in the temple rent. It was torn from top to bottom. The veil in the temple was 60 feet tall from the ceiling to the roof. It had a thickness of 14 inches of linen, goats’ hair, wool, and leather, all put together. It was humanly impossible to tear unless one used special equipment. Yet it was torn from top down because God did the tearing. He threw it wide open.
Scripture tells us the veil was the partition that kept the people outside, away from the Holy of Holies, where only the high priests were allowed to go inside once a year. To enter the Holy of Holies, the high priest had to first make a sacrifice. He had to make sure he had no unconfessed sins in his life. Then only would he go inside very carefully and offer the blood sacrifice for the whole nation and for all believers all over the world. No one could simply enter into the presence. It was so sacred and so holy but God tore the veil so that all men could now come in.
Jesus came to remove that veil of partition. So with the veil rent, He says now you can come into my presence and I will come into your presence as well. You do not have to come at a particular place or time or in a particular way. You come into my presence and I will come into yours. I will go wherever you are. I will be with you always. The veil of partition is gone!
