Acts of Grace 19
MOVE UP TO GREATER LOVE AND COMPASSION
By Pastor Henry
“In those days, when the number of disciples was increasing, the Grecian Jews among them complained against the Hebraic Jews because their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food.” (Acts 6:1)
By the grace of God, we as a church that serves the community, is providing 2,000 meals a day to the poor, orphans, widows and needy – and I am believing for this number to multiply. Why we do the things that we are doing? Because the plight of the poor and the widowed is close to God’s heart.
Early in the New Testament church, the Grecian Jews, those who came from Greek background, complained that their widows were being overlooked in the daily food distribution. So the disciples got together to address this need which resulted in them choosing seven men known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom to take over the responsibility of feeding the widows. (Acts 2-3)
This is the full gospel, the first meeting the disciples had in the early church was for one reason alone – to figure out ‘how to feed the widows daily”. Whether Grecian Jews of Hebraic Jews, there was no racial or cultural prejudice, the early church was committed to the daily feeding and provision for poor widows.
My prayer is that we will come to a place where we will be able to feed abandoned women and children in greater numbers than we are presently doing. My prayer is that we will MOVE UP to greater faith, compassion and resources to provide for the many more out there that are neglected and have not.
That is why our coming move into Alpha Omega International, our new premises, is not so much about a bigger or costlier building - it is about moving up into a new resource centre and equipping station that will empower us to serve the community better.
If you know of anyone, Christian or non-Christian that needs food to survive, let us know because this opens the door to demonstrate the love of God. A man that is hungry, food is his God. A man that is naked, clothing is his God. A man without a home, shelter is his God. How can we care for the people around us? We can by showing the love of God through practical means. The Lord says that if you do these things, I will bless the labour of your hands.
Ask people why they are not doing anything and their answer will be, “Waiting for God to move”. What scripture is that? Who told you God is not moving? In scripture, it never says to wait for God to move - God is waiting for you to move! He has done everything that He is supposed to do and given everything that He is supposed to give. He says, “I give you the seed, you sow, you till the ground, sow and water the seed and I will give increase.”
“So the word of God spread. The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased rapidly, and a large number of priests became obedient to the faith.” (Acts 6:7)
Hallelujah! When we take care of the people close to God’s heart – if we do not neglect the ministry of the Word and the daily distribution of food and provision to the poor, widows and orphans – God will give us the increase. So let love and compassion rise in our hearts, let’s move up to greater faith, commitment and sacrifice – and let God do the impossible in our lives!
